Belt Brass
Would it be possible to teach myself to play the trumpet?
I am 16 years old, in band and choir and understand music very well. Lately, I've been wanting to try my hand at another instrument. I play percussion right now (mostly mallets, but a bit of snare too). I have good rhythmic understanding but I've never played a wind instrument. When I tried out for band, I remember that I was better at brass instruments than woodwinds, and so I decided that trumpet would be the easiest for me. Would it be possible to teach myself proper embouchure for trumpet playing or should I take formal lessons?

my advice to you is to get a book that shows how to hold the trumpet and how to play the differet notes. Also get some sheet music. But start off by learning the main notes (c, d, e, f, g, a, b, c) before learning anything else, an just get some sheet music. If your trying to learn to play an instrument i suggest trumpet too because it only has three buttons to press, while clarinets and saxaphones have many more. just remember that when youre blowing into a trumpet, you make sort of a buzzing noise. and when youre playing, keep youre cheeks tucked in, and for higher notes use faster air. hope i helped
